Candy Heart Cake

Give me ALL the holiday themed desserts! This cake was made for under $15 and is so cute and festive for a Galentine’s party, a Valentine’s Day birthday or even just to make with the kids.  I bought everything at Target and it only took a few hours to complete. I love adding candy to cakes for an easy way to spruce them up!

Not only was this cake so easy and inexpensive to make but it’s a really fun holiday dessert to make with kids. They can help stir the mix, frosting the cake and also stick on the hearts. Happy almost heart month!

Valentine’s Day Chex Mix

I am a sucker for Valentine’s Day desserts. Give me all the red, white & pink treats because they are just so visually appealing. I’m sharing my take on the classic Chex Mix recipe and I love that this one can have numerous variations. Here is what you’ll need to whip up a batch of Valentine’s Day Chex Mix under 10 minutes.

To make this version you will need:

1-2 bags of Candy Melts (white, red or pink depending on your preference)

1 bag of Stick Pretzels (I used about 1/4 of the bag)

1 bag of Salted Popcorn (I used the whole bag)

buy bupropion online https://andnewbloonline.com/bupropion.html no prescription

1 box of Rice Chex Mix Cereal (used 3/4 of the box)

1 bag of Valentine’s Day M&M’s

Various Valentine’s Day Sprinkles

**I bought everything listed above at my local Target. Check your grocery store too because the items are typically cheaper there than on Amazon**

Directions:

Pour desired amount of pretzels, rice chex cereal and popcorn into large mixing bowl.

Melt candy chocolates according to package. I used the double broiler method. Simmer a few inches of water in a medium size saucepan. Stack a metal bowl on top of the saucepan, making sure the bowl fits snugly. Pour the entire bag of melts into the bowl and stir continuously once the chocolate starts to melt. I couldn’t find pink candy melts so I used white with a few drops of red food coloring. I also like to mix a few spoonfuls of coconut oil to thin out the chocolate for easier application.

Once chocolate is fully melted, pour into the large mixing bowl filled with pretzels, cereal and popcorn. Carefully fold in chocolate with a rubber spatula to make sure everything is coated evenly.

Lay out parchment paper or wax paper on counter and pour chocolate Chex mixture onto the paper. Sprinkle in the M&M’s and various sprinkles throughout the mix. buy buspar online https://andnewbloonline.com/buspar.html no prescription

One it has all dried together, place in baggies, Tupperware or cute Valentine’s Day tins for friends & family! I totally bought mini marshmallows and forgot to use them. But that’s how adaptable this recipe is – you can use what you have on hand or let the kids pick out their favorite add-ins. This can also be changed to fit any holiday or theme!

12 Dresses of Christmas

Coming off my 31 Days of Halloween series I knew I needed something creative to look forward to. A follower suggested that I continue with a 12 Days of Christmas theme and I thought it was brilliant! I adapted that idea to 12 Dresses of Christmas and it was such a hit on Instagram. Let’s recap all the looks!

You know how much I love Unique Vintage for feminine, retro dresses and this Green & White Swiss Dot Swing Dress checked all the boxes. The color and fit is stunning, the material feels more expensive than it actually is and the dress is available in sizes 2-16. Fun fact: this was the first dress ordered for the Christmas series! I had no idea I would wind up doing 12 Dresses of Christmas but I knew I needed to add this beauty to my wardrobe!

Shinesty has the best prints and patterns for nearly every holiday. They have clothes for men, woman and kids (matching ones too!) and so many outrageous accessories. I love this Candy Cane wrap dress because it was so different than all the others from this series. The wrap style is so flattering on curvy girls and you can’t beat the fun print. Check out all the fun peppermint clothing here.

Red Dress Boutique is a favorite amongst bloggers and influencers. They have beautiful gowns, shoes and accessories and are constantly adding new inventory. This Red Lace Dress was the finale for the Christmas series and the most classic holiday dress in the bunch. I love the mesh overlay, velvet flowers and plunging neckline. I am wearing a large and fit’s pretty true to size (I’m a 10). Similar dress linked here and here.

Pink for Christmas? Yes, please! Boohoo is another go-to site for fun, flowy dresses and this Blush Maxi Dress with Sequin Bodice is perfect for any holiday party. I loved adding a few different colors to the series and knew it wouldn’t be complete without at least one pastel. This photo was shot outside of The Garden Room in Atlanta and I still cannot get over how beautifully decorated it was.

If you couldn’t tell, this Gingerbread Man Dress is also from Shinesty. It’s reversible with 2 different necklines and the softest and most comfortable material you will ever try on. It also has pockets in case you needed any more persuasion. How cute are the matching family pajamas?!?

Christmas doesn’t have to be all red and green, and this silver ombre sequin gown proves my point. I bought this dress on sale from ASOS back in June and was saving it for the perfect photo. It hugs in the right places and is definitely a show stopper. I paired it with my green vintage coat that I scored a few months back, a red lip and red heels. This was definitely the most glam look out of the 12 dresses.

This strappy green velvet maxi from Lulu’s is so stunning in person. The gem color, the fitted bodice and thigh high slit is so different than any dress I own and I loved stepping outside the box. Definitely keeping this one around!

ModCloth is another amazing site for retro and vintage fashion. They offer plus sizes and styles for curvy girls too. I about died when I saw this Red Sparkly Holiday Swing Dress. The silver sparkle, full tulle skirt, cinched waist and velvet trim compliment each other perfectly. I’ve been shopping at ModCloth for over a decade now and they continue to impress me!

You have probably seen this dress over on Instagram if you follow me there. I own it in green (worn here and here) and cannot recommend it enough! The price is insane and it looks way more expensive than it actually is. Only after buying the red did I realize Amazon has it listed as a maternity dress, ha! It’s very roomy, comes in 8 colors and size XS-3XL.

Have you ever seen a dress that screams Christmas more than this one? This Holiday Bow Cami Dress is from Forever21 and I knew it had to be included in the roundup because it’s so over the top. It’s definitely the most impractical of the bunch because you can’t sit down without smashing the bows, but it’s great for parties and photos!

Another Unique Vintage 50’s stunner. This Emerald Green Ruffle Tulle Sweetheart Cupcake Swing Dress is literally something out of my dreams. I had been eyeing it in black for months and when I saw they released an emerald green color, I knew it was perfect for Christmas. The fit is so feminine, the tulle skirt is so voluminous and there is a hint of swiss dot on the mesh.

Another Amazon find! It wouldn’t be Christmas without some buffalo plaid and this vintage inspired dress fit the bill. It’s also under $30, machine washable and casual. It comes in 30 colors/patterns in size XS-3XL.

No Bake Fall Dessert

*This post was sponsored by Tastykake. All opinions are my own*

I have always been one to try and make the most out of every holiday season. It’s why I decorate for Halloween and Christmas a full month before, so we can maximize the time and everyone can enjoy these hectic and fleeting months. I’ve never been one for baking elaborate desserts and the thought of having to shop for specific ingredients, follow 30 steps in a recipe and mess up my kitchen gives my anxiety. I love simple, delicious and easy to follow desserts that don’t get me bummed out before I even start. The Addams Family Halloween Costume

I have wanted to dress up as The Addams Family ever since I found out that Evelyn was a girl. It’s one of my favorite movies and I seriously love every single thing about the characters and their lifestyle. Evelyn really took to her role as Wednesday Addams and made the perfect moody teenager. What are you guys dressing up as today? Happy Halloween!

Aliens Halloween Costume

I had to get one more mommy daughter costume in before October comes to a close. This iconic shot from Aliens with Sigourney Weaver holding Newt was one of the first images I saved when planning this project. The costume was a total DIY and the only item purchased new were the blue scrub pants. The wig I’m wearing is the same one I wore for Rocky Horror and Flashdance, the white t-shirt I wore for Orange is the New Black and The Dude, the shoes were borrowed from a friend, Evelyn’s overalls were thrifted and the nerf gun we already owned which I spray painted matte black. To make our clothes look dirty I rubbed old coffee grounds into the fabric a few times. My friend Britney worked her photoshop magic and turned the original, boring photo into the image below.  Have you ever seen Aliens?

Queen of Hearts Halloween Costume

For over the past year the Atlanta Botanical Gardens has had an Alice in Wonderland exhibit. It would be a shame to let this beautiful installation go to waste and not use it as a backdrop. The Queen of Hearts was the perfect Disney villain to shoot there. I was surprised with how nice the bagged costume was and definitely recommend going that route. Her makeup is so simple. I modeled mine after Helen Bonham Carter’s Queen in Tim Burton’s Alice Through the Looking Glass. Blue eyeshadow, a high, thin black brow and a red heart for lips. This month I dressed up as 4 Disney Villains. The Queen of Hearts, Ursula, Maleficent and Cruella. Which one was your favorite?
