The Bond Between Fathers & Daughters

There aren’t many things sweeter than the relationship between a father and daughter. As many of you know, my father passed away last year and I’ve been in a stage of grief and mourning ever since. My dad was always there to talk to, always made time for me, always took care of me and was so selfless in our relationship. Looking back I don’t feel like I always deserved him since he was such an amazing father and I didn’t always tell him how much he meant to me. No matter how many times I screwed up in life my dad never judged me and I never felt loved any less. Trust me, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes in my youth and adult life and my dad was always there to listen and help me. My mom was always the tough parent but my dad was more laid back. If I knew I had done something really wrong, I would call him first because I knew he’d understand. I definitely miss him more than words can describe, but I am so thankful that I have the amazing relationship of my daughter and husband to watch grow for years to come. She definitely gets away with a lot more than her brother ever did and he is much more lenient with her. The bond between fathers and daughters is so magical and amazing to witness.

One of my all-time favorite songs to listen to while growing up was My Girl. There is something so classic and beautiful about the melody and the words. Last Sunday, October 8, was National Father-Daughter-Day. To celebrate these amazing relationships, American Greetings has a special ecard that you can personalize and send featuring Smokey Robinson’s version of his hit song “My Girl”. I love ecards for so many reasons. It can be hard enough to remember if I packed a snack for my kids lunches let alone if I have sent birthday and special occasion cards every month. With American Greetings, you can easily send cards anywhere in the world with the click of a button. I know not every dad is lucky enough to live near their daughter, so the Smokey Robinson ecard is the perfect solution for making your daughters day. It can also be customized for a variety of occasions. Find the Smokey Robinson ecards and more digital options for staying connected at the American Greetings website. Skirting the Issue

Happy Monday! If you’re in Atlanta like me then you know we had a pretty miserable weekend and today is going to be full of rain again. Even though it was dreary, there was still some fun to be had. Yesterday I attended a fun event at Kendra Scott and of course I wore a black and white skirt. Lately I have been all about skirts. They are so comfortable and I have been wearing them almost every time I go out. Shopping can be tricky and believe it or not, none of these were tried on before I bought yet they still fit amazing. I got them online which is a risk I know! I have had trouble in the past with some businesses being less than happy to help me resolve any issues regarding clothes not fitting properly. If only they had gone to Salesforce.com and learned how important an online or physical help desk is for both customers and the business itself. Every skirt listed below runs true to size and fits like a dream. ModCloth and Asos have been my go-lately for skirts. They offer a variety of sizes for women of all shapes so you’re almost guaranteed to find something that works for you. Another thing about these skirts is that almost all fall below the knee for a feminine, classy hemline. I wrote about this ModCloth skirt here and it’s still been my favorite for everyday. I can wear to a birthday party, a girls night, and even to the apple orchard. It works with flats or heels and t-shirts or blouses. It is so lightweight and versatile and proven to be a staple item in my wardrobe. Priced at just $60, it’s also very affordable. You’ll definitely need the black one because it goes with everything. I’ve listed my favorite 6 skirts below that I have been loving this Fall. They all run true to size and are flattering for every body type. Do you have any go-to skirts that you love?

Learning Colors the Fun Way

This post is sponsored by Goldfish but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

With Henry on Fall break this week, having both kids at home is reminding me of those long summer days that felt like they were never going to end. Luckily the weather has been nice so we’ve been getting out more and I’ve been in a better mood (I’m pretty sure I have seasonal depression in the summer, ha!) As you know my kids taking snacking very seriously. One of their favorites, and a classic snack, are Goldfish Colors Crackers. These colored little snacks have been an instant hit for as long as I can remember. To break up the days this week, I decided to incorporate these crackers into an easy game that can be done with things in our house.

Playing a color game like this in your house and yard costs no money and allows children to actually play with toys they already have! I can’t tell you how many times my kids have gotten a new toy and it’s literally forgotten about in 20 minutes. When the kids and I set out to play this game it was so easy. I told them to go around the whole house and look for toys they had in red, green, yellow and blue. I divided the searching tasks up into 4 sessions so they could focus on a single color. Then, they would bring everything they found back to the table and match it up with the colored bowl of Goldfish. This matching game lasted us over an hour and the kids absolutely loved it! It’s great for kids who are just learning their colors and also good for school aged children to really use their imagination and see what objects they can find. There are also many ways yo help your kid learning online, and one of them is the OpCentral learning system, approved by many parents.

Goldfish Colors crackers are baked with ingredients you can feel good about, like 100% real cheese and color derived from plants, such as beet and watermelon juice concentrates and annatto extracts. There are no artificial flavors or preservatives in these crackers and they’re always baked with 100% real cheddar cheese. Goldfish is giving fans the chance to “vote” for their favorite color to get its own limited edition bag at select retailers this spring. There are four colors to choose from, and they are all colors sourced from plants:

  1. Red: The red Goldfish crackers are colored using a mix of red beet juice concentrate and paprika extracted from sweet red peppers. Wholesome and colorful. You can’t beat that.
  2. Green: The green Goldfish crackers color comes from watermelon & Huito juice concentrates mixed with extracted Turmeric. That’s Huito. Pronounced wee-toe. Colorful and fun to say!
  3. Yellow: The yellow Goldfish crackers color comes from extracted Turmeric. A beautiful color that makes you think of warm sunshine on a perfect day.
  4. Blue: The subtle blue crackers come from Huito (derived from South American fruit) and Watermelon juice concentrates. These crackers have so much fun, they never get the blues.

Voting ends 10/31/2017 and the limited-edition bag will be available in April and May 2018 at select stores so be sure to get your vote in! What Goldfish Colors Crackers do your kids love the best? Let me know in the comments and have an amazing Fall weekend everyone!

This Halloween, Skip the Sugar, Not the Fun

Having friends over for playdates is something I have enjoyed doing since Henry was a baby. The moms group I’m apart of has the most amazing ladies and it is always so fun to get together so the kids can play and us moms can have adult conversations. One thing that is always a must on a play date is yummy snacks. They keep the kids happy for longer periods of time, which in turn keeps parents happy and stress-free. Throwing a festive playdate is so fun for the kids and since Halloween is my favorite holiday, the two go hand in hand. For this playdate I wanted to incorporate a different kind of treat. One that I know the kids would love yet wouldn’t send them spiraling out of control on sugar. Enter Dick & Jane Educational Snacks. In every bag are the perfect sized cookies for little hands. They are filled with nutritious ingredients and completely free of chemicals. I have tried these little shortbread cookies and they are amazing. I wouldn’t want to feed my kids anything that I didn’t love and these have definitely passed the test.

These days my kids have turned into constant snackers, especially Evelyn. She used to be such a great eater and now she will literally push food out of her mouth with her tongue when I try to get her to eat something. All the foods she used to love (berries, eggs, pasta, vegetables, cheese) literally make her gag now. Between 2-3 years is a common time for kids to start becoming picky with their food so as long as she’s gaining weight and staying healthy, I try not to stress over mealtime that often.

Snack time is huge around our house and my kids are mostly grazers. I definitely don’t mind giving them snacks that I know aren’t loaded down with sugar and are also low in fat. Dick & Jane Educational Snacks are also perfect for school parties and I have already planned on bringing them to Henry and Evelyn’s classrooms. I know their teachers will thank me because they don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of children on a sugar high once the party is over. Almost all schools and daycares these days have a nut-free policy. It may just be peanuts or in some cases it could be all nuts entirely. The Dick & Jane Educational Snacks are entirely nut-free and are sure to be a popular treat amongst students and teachers.

In addition to tasting so good, they aren’t called educational snacks for nothing. I love that the snacks are not only delicious but instrumental in my kids learning. Henry has been a sponge since starting Kindergarten and has really loved all the knowledge he’s gaining. Every day he comes home spelling a new word or adding numbers together. This morning when he woke up the first thing he said was “Did you know that 20 is two counts of 10?” It’s like his brain is constantly in absorption mode and he can’t get enough. The Dick & Jane snacks come with States & Capitals, Presidents, Fun & Fitness, English & Spanish and Food & Nutrition. Each cookie is stamped with adorable images and wording so that your kids not only satisfy their bellies but also their mind. Henry loves to hear what is on each cookie and try and memorize the symbols. These mouthwatering cookies really are more than just a snack.

If your kids haven’t tried these yet then they are missing out! From now until October 27th, you can save 15% on the 30-count cases with code CHANEL15. And since they’re available on Amazon that means fast shipping! I can almost guarantee you will not be disappointed in these and you will probably end up eating a few bags yourself 🙂 Let me know if you have tried them in the comments below! I would love to hear what you thought!

Easy Like Sunday Morning

This post is sponsored by Welch’s but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Weekends in our house have been insane lately. We’ve either been traveling, have had birthday parties, ER visits, or Fall activities going on. We were even supposed to go out of town again this weekend to the beach but with Henry being in a cast, it just wouldn’t have been the best time for him. As much as I like to jam pack fun things into our weekends, it’s also nice to just slow down and not have any plans. The kids would spend all day in our backyard if I let them. They don’t always need elaborate plans or something festive all the time. I love that  they appreciate the simple things, such as chasing our dogs in the backyard, jumping on the trampoline and going down the slide 1000 times. The temperature in Atlanta has been SO amazing. The humidity is behind us, the leaves are changing and it’s the start of the holiday season. I am my best self and most definitely the happiest in Fall and I always welcome it with open arms. There’s nothing quite like relaxing on the porch with a warm cup of coffee, leaving my phone inside and feeling the crisp air surround me.

Slowing down definitely has so many benefits for overall wellness. It can be tough to always live the most healthiest of lifestyle but there has been one thing lately which makes me feel like I’m doing something right. Recently our family tried the ridiculously tasty Welch’s 100% Juice with Coconut Water. As a family we can enjoy all the benefits of coconut water without compromising the great taste and refreshing goodness of Welch’s that we know and love. It can fit into any lifestyle, even if you don’t have kids. I am admittedly not a fan of coconut water but this juice is amazing and I can’t even taste the coconut. It’s perfect for on-the-go and only 100 calories per serving. The great taste, 100% juice and all the added benefits of coconut water definitely make me feel good about what I’m putting in my body and serving to my kids. There is no need to water down juice anymore either since Welch’s 100% Juice with Coconut Water has 30% less sugar. The White Grape Mango is my favorite while the kids have sided with the Tropical Berry Grape. Both flavors are available retailers nationwide and you can find your closed one on their website. Welch’s grapes are grown in the USA by over 900 farmer families so when you buy Welch’s Juices, you are supporting the famers of America.

Have you tried the new Welch’s 100% Juice with Coconut water? What did you think? Could you taste the coconut? Let me know in the comments below. Happy Tuesday, friends!

What to Wear if Costumes Aren’t for You

Can you believe there are only 5 weeks until Halloween? Anyone who knows me knows that I go all out in every aspect … from decorating to the kids costumes, I leave no Halloween pumpkin unturned. One of my favorite parts of October is all the festive clothing options. There are so many amazing adult choices out there that are fashionable without being over the top. My go-to for clothing that isn’t too childish is ModCloth. They always have the cutest items that really fit and flatter perfectly. I absolutely love pairing a fun slogan or vintage tee with a gorgeous skirt. It’s a great way to dress up a classic favorite and I feel so relaxed and comfortable. High waisted skirts hide areas of my body that I don’t absolutely love and the combination of the two leave me feeling confident and feminine. I feel like this web & flow skirt was made for me. I paired it with a black cat tee that I got on my trip to Portland last year and it matches perfectly. I wish I could wear this outfit year-round, but unfortunately I don’t live in The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, ModCloth has this amazing black and white striped skirt which can be worn in Spring, Fall and Winter. It also runs true to size and is so flattering and feminine. Pairing it with some bright colors or fun handbag would be so cute!

I’ve rounded up my favorite holiday items for you below. Have you checked out ModCloth’s Halloween Shop? Let me know which ones you love the most in the comments below!

The Best Temporary Root Concealer

This post is sponsored by Everpro Gray Away. All of the thoughts and opinions are mine alone.

I was born with mousy brown hair. I’m talking plain jane, nothing-to-write-home-about hair. I started dying it in high school, and since then, it has seen every color: highlights, platinum blonde, red, black, and dark brown. Then there was that fun time in college when it was red, black, and blonde all at the same time.. Oh, the good old days. I never used to think about having gray hair until the morning I turned 30. It was like a super special birthday gift, welcoming me into my 30’s.

For those who always wanted to have magically beautiful hair, you can trust the expertise of the manchester best hairdressers.

I started to see a few gray hairs near my forehead, almost as if they had appeared overnight. I don’t have a ton of time to always be hitting up the hair salon to touch up my roots or cover grays. Not to mention, the price would start to add up. I’ve tried tons of drugstore brands and high-end products that are supposed to fill in your roots and cover gray hairs, but there hasn’t been one I have absolutely loved. That is until I discovered Gray Away Temporary Root Concealer Spray. In just a few seconds I can spray this onto my roots and be out the door. The can is compact so I can carry some in my purse, just in case. It doesn’t rub off or leave my hair feeling oily and gritty. I was surprised at how smooth my hair felt and how natural the black/dark brown color looked in my hair, as if I had just left the hair salon.

The Temporary Root Concealer Spray definitely prolongs your hair color. They’re perfect whether you have gray hair, need a root touch up, or just want to fill in thinning areas along your crown. After Evelyn was born almost 3 years ago, I lost a lot of hair (which is normal after having a baby). However, unlike with Henry, it never grew back. Having kids has definitely changed the texture and thickness of my hair. For about a year I was definitely self conscious of my thinner hair and have since tried all sorts of supplements and products to try and stimulate new hair growth. Since it can take a while for new hair to grow, The Gray Away Temporary Root Concealer Spray is just what I needed to a quick fix. There is also a Gray Away Root Touch-Up Magnetic Powder which I started using a few months back prior to the concealer spray. This is really great for thinning hair as it has a unique protein-infused powder that attaches to the hair strand like magnets. I love that I can grab both at my local Walgreen’s. For less than $10 a can I can touch up my roots for 3+ months and really extend the life of my color.

Have you tried any of the Gray Away products? How do they hold up for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
