Last week I had the privilege of visiting a Pulte Homes Group event that showcased the latest and greatest in smart home technology. The model home we visited was in North Atlanta and included everything a new homeowner would need if. From wireless access points to front door locks that you can control from your phone, the technology in this smart home was mind blowing. How We Manage Allergy Season

Living in Atlanta, we are no strangers to the pollen and allergy season. I developed seasonal allergies later in life, and I feel like each year they get worse. Unfortunately, Henry, who is almost 6, has been dealing with horrible seasonal allergies since he was 3. He would live outside if we let him and is constantly asking to go in the yard and play. The One Accessory You Need for a Mommy & Me Photoshoot

Truth be told, we have taken family pictures once and it was a complete disaster. Evelyn was only 9 months old and hated being held, the lighting was bright and harsh, it was cold and windy, Henry was running around like an escaped zoo animal and my husband and I were over the pictures before they even started. So it’s safe to say that family photo shoots don’t work best for us. However, I love capturing photos of the kids with their dad and vice versa, and having a little girl makes mommy & me photos so fun, and that’s why having Superb family photoshoots makes me really excited about it.

I’ve shared before that before I had kids I never wanted a daughter. I had always envisioned myself with 3 boys, driving nonstop to sports games and practices and really living that boy mom life. God had other plans when he blessed us with a daughter and I am forever grateful. Besides the fact that I couldn’t possibly handle 3 of Henry, I am absolutely in love with Evelyn and her sweet and funny personality. She is always up for taking photos, playing dress up, putting on makeup and matching with me.

Pretty In Polka Dots

Before I went on my girls trip to Nashville in April I bought two of the cutest Polka Dot dresses from Target. I’ve been wearing them all over my Instagram feed (see here, here, here and here) and for good reason. When I find a piece of clothing that I love and is flattering, I buy it in every color. Same with shoes! I’m normally an XL in all Target dresses and tops and this dress fits like a dream. I love the cut out detail underneath the bust and it’s flattering on all figures if you’re a size 0, 8 or 14. My favorite feature? the pockets of course! This dress highlights the smallest part of the waist and loosens over the hips, creating a beautiful silhouette for every body type. I also love that I don’t have to wear a bra because the straps are adjustable and the bust is just tight enough to hold everything in without being uncomfortable. Speaking of buying things I love in multiple colors, these platform wedges are my new favorite. I have them in black and nude and they go with everything I own. They’re perfect for dresses, skirts, shorts and jeans and are just under $60.

My Favorite Cleaning Tools [for surviving pet parenting]

Adopting from shelters has always been a no-brainer for my family. Every animal I grew up with was a rescue and I’ve continued rescuing animals in my adult life. When my husband and I were thinking about getting a second dog last Fall, we knew she would come from a local shelter. This time we decided to adopt a female Pit Bull and made it a family affair. After all, the American Pit Bull Terrier is the number one breed up for adoption in shelters. These dogs face overwhelming discrimination and misrepresentation in the media, and I’ll admit that I was a bit hesitant about bringing a four-year-old dog home instead of a new puppy. We had no idea why she was in the shelter or what her background was, so it was a bit of a gamble, especially with two small children, two cats and an older dog already at home. When the staff brought Winnie out to meet us, we all fell in love with her right away, even Sammy, our older dog who we brought, immediately loved her. Once we knew that the dogs were okay to be around each other, Winnie was ours. After that, I also got her a pet insurance since all out other pets had one (check it out here).

We are no strangers to pet hair around our house because #ShedHappens. With 4 fur babies, sometimes it seems like the pet hair and shedding is never ending. When it comes to sports in our house, soccer is the hands down winner. Ever since Atlanta go its own team, my husband has been lived and breathed soccer. Stained Wooden Tray DIY

I’ve been lucky to have a husband who is extremely handy when it comes to carpentry and building things. Over the years I’ve learned a lot from him and picked up some easy tricks which have come in handy for small projects I want to do by myself. A few months ago we upgraded our coffee table to a beautiful dark gray tufted ottoman. It looks perfect in our living room and has soft edges for the kids. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to create a Stained Wooden Tray which can be used as the perfect gift along with flower bouquets from 1-800 Flowers. Pink Roses & Lily’s are one of my favorite combinations and I love separating bouquets and dispersing them all over the house. Something about seeing fresh flowers everywhere makes me happy and in a better mood. All bouquets from 1-800 Flowers can be ordered with or without a vase and I chose to order just the bouquet since I usually trim short and put in mason jars or smaller vases that I already have. I find that when I break up the flowers into smaller bundles they seem to bloom faster and stay fresh longer.

To make this stained wooden tray you’ll need the following list of items:

Materials:

Two 24 inches pieces of 1×8 pine (this wood can be purchased and cut to size at your local hardware store).

Two 14.5 inch pieces of 1×8 pine (this wood can be purchased and cut to size at your local hardware store).

Wood Glue

1 1/4 inch brad nails

Stain

Latex Gloves

Staining Cloth

Hardware: Two Drawer Pulls or Handles (these can be found on Amazon or any hardware store. I chose gold to tie in with the gold accents in our living room)

Tools:

Nail Gun

Drill

A bestgas chainsaws

Clamp

Step 1: This should be done the night before you are ready to stain your tray so that the wood glue can dry properly. Lay the two 24 inches pieces of pine side by side on a flat surface (not your kitchen counter, trust me on this). Add glue to the inside edges and clamp together. Wipe off any excess glue.

Step 2: Apply wood glue to the bottom of the two 14.5 inch pieces of wood, turn them over and place on each end of the base. Wipe off any excess glue and make sure all pieces of wood are lined up properly.

Step 3: Grab your nail gun and nail in 6 nails onto each 14.5 inch piece of wood to make sure it’s properly attached. Keep clamp on wood overnight to dry.

Step 4: Remove clamp and stain your tray. Do this outside if weather permits so you aren’t breathing in any fumes. Be sure to wear gloves during this process to avoid getting stain on your hands. Dip the staining cloth into the jar of stain and apply one coat at a time. I applied 2 coats of stain because I like to see some of the wood grain show through. Allow each coat to try properly before adding a new one. Luckily it was sunny and warm when I stained my tray so I didn’t have to wait long.

Step 5: Once your stain coverage is the color you like and completely dry, assemble the hardware. Use your drill to screw in the hardware to the two 14.5 pieces and Voila! You just made your own farmhouse tray in 5 easy steps! This tray can also be used to serve breakfast in bed (hint hint husbands).

I love the mix of rustic wood and modern hardware. The handles are definitely my favorite touch and going with the gray stain gave the tray a contemporary look. It’s such a versatile piece that can be used in any room of the house. And of course it wouldn’t be complete without some fresh flowers from 1-800 Flowers.
