Sweet Potato Sunday!

Before Henry was born I knew I wanted to make his food and I wanted him to eat all organic and homemade (I even make the rice and oatmeal). He first started having solids at 4 1/2 months and we’ve been lucky in that he hasn’t been allergic to anything. I look forward to our grocery trips to Whole Foods and Fresh Market to get new goodies. Lately I have been trying more finger foods (chicken, scrambled eggs, and shredded cheese). This weekend I decided to make some baked sweet potato fries. I ended up cutting them into chunks which are perfect for his little fingers. Some of my slices were a little thin which resulted in getting slightly burnt (but the dogs sure enjoyed them!) Next time I will try longer slices so they’re more like a french fry. Hopefully everyone had a great weekend!

Five Things Friday

If there was one thing I wish I could do, it would be sewing. My grandmother has been a seamstress all her life. She made my mother and her two sisters clothes growing up and would even make their barbie and doll clothes. She can sew curtains, dust ruffles, pillows, prom dresses, knit scarves, crochet, etc. You name it, she can sew it. She even made Henry’s bedding and the curtains in his bathroom and bedroom. When I look back, I wish I would have spent more time learning to sew from her instead of playing Super Nintendo. Hindsight is always 20/20. Back to the topic … PILLOWS! I am a pillow hoarder. I will even buy random pillow cases at target on the clearance shelf if it has a pretty pattern. Even if it’s a lonely case with no partner. I.just.love.cushions. I saw a gorgeous set of Bee Cushions the other day, they would make a lovely gift for someone! We’re running out of room in our living room and bedroom so now the pillows decorate Henry’s room. My poor child … So check out these amazing pillows from Etsy, some come only with the cover so make sure you can locate an insert in the size you want before ordering. I prefer a down feather fill which is more inviting than poly fill. You can get poly fill inserts at your local JoAnn’s, Michael’s, Ikea or Hobby Lobby. Crate and Barrel and Nordstrom online sell down feather inserts in most standard sizes. I hope everyone has a great weekend! We have our neighborhood garage sale tomorrow and then we may check out the Inman Park Festival. Henry also turns 10 months old on Sunday … sad face 🙁 I will post a recap on Monday!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was absolutely beautiful here in Atlanta. High’s in the mid 60’s, no pollen, cool breezes … simply perfect for outdoor activities. Saturday was the big Atlanta Zoo trip that some mommy friends and I had been planning. The majority of the dads had not met one another so it was nice for them to meet and get to know everyone. Afterwards we all went to lunch at Six Feet Under and sat upstairs on the outside patio overlooking the city. All the babies were such troopers and well behaved! Some were even able to take their naps at the zoo or lunch. It was so fun getting everyone together and I am already looking forward to our group cookout in May!
Sunday was filled with errands, cleaning, relaxation, margaritas and lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. We spent some time in the back yard (which was freshly mowed by the hubby) and also put up a new bird feeder. Henry even enjoyed his morning bottle beneath the azaleas. I’m sad this weekend had to come to an end and I am already counting the days until next weekend. We have our yearly garage cleanup where we check our garage and garage door for repairs and buy from Midwest Garage Builders our tools and avail services that we need.
I hope everyone got to get outside and enjoy their time together!

Five Things Friday

Anyone that knows me knows I have a slight obsession with shopping. Okay, maybe not so slight (just ask my husband). There are so many amazing products out there that I want to share so I’ve decided to start a weekly column with five of my favorite Etsy finds. This week is all about blankets. Henry has so many blankets and I sometimes wish we lived in Alaska so I would have an excuse to buy more. My favorites usually always include a pattern … I think everything should be covered in pattern and I am slowly incorporating it into all aspects of my life. Check out these fun blankets from these Etsy sellers:

Four Years!

Today marks four years since our first date (!!!) While we don’t go all out with a celebration, we do acknowledge what a special day this was four years ago. Our first date was at Bistro VG in Roswell, GA (where we ended up having our rehearsal dinner as well). The food is amazing, the old house turned restaurant is decorated beautifully and the atmosphere is so relaxed. We usually go back every year, but this year with the baby was tough, especially on a weeknight. I decided last minute to make a little DIY craft, courtesy of Pinterest of course! Find my inspiration here
Here are the supplies I used:
– picture frame with glass, at least a 5×7 size
– scissors
– dry erase markers
– cute scrapbook paper or tissue paper
After using the tissue paper, I noticed the dry erase markers I bought didn’t really show up. So I switched out the tissue for some pretty paper from Sugarboo Designs! Here is the final version:
I wish I would have had more time to work on it, but it was very last minute. Next time I will find some different paper and print the “I love you because” in a fun font. Jan and I decided to put it in our bedroom so we could both write on it 🙂
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes <3

29th Birthday Recap

On April 3 I turned 29. Twenty Nine. Sigh.
(this cake is from Henri’s Bakery in Atlanta. My mom has gotten every cake of mine there since I was one!) She’d even got Promotion Choice’s custom coasters with my favourite images and phrases on.
The birthday celebration actually started Easter Sunday since we had both sides of family in town. My mother, father, and step dad bought me a MacBook Pro which I have been wanting for years! Such an amazing, thoughtful gift. Baby Henry wanted to help Mama blow out her candles, but I really think he just wanted that frosting!
Breaking in the MacBook in bed while the baby sleeps. Ahhh, so nice <3
(side note, this tv/laptop tray is from Ikea! It was only $7.99 and such a great investment)
Tuesday night my mother in law cooked an amazing pre birthday dinner of Shrimp & Scallop St. Jacque with gouda cheese. Scallops are my absolute favorite seafood and I could eat them daily … too bad they are so pricey. The dish was incredible and I will have to get the recipe and share it.
Unfortunately Tuesday night I started feeling sick. My throat was on fire and my body was aching all over. I decided to go to bed early and rest up for Wednesday. That didn’t help. Early Wednesday morning, on my actual birthday of course, I woke up feeling miserable, like I had strep throat. I was wincing every time I swallowed, my body ached so bad I could hardly move, and my head felt as heavy as a bowling ball. I tried to psyche myself out, get ready, and go into work. We had a big day planned … birthday lunch with friends and front row Braves tickets. I was going to try and make it no matter what.
All of my co-workers were so sweet. They decorated my office, bought me coffee, flowers, , presents, and a cake. I am lucky to work with some amazing people <3.
The birthday lunch was cancelled and Jan and I opted for some soup to try and help my throat. After work we headed to the Braves game with my mom and step dad. He has season tickets, row 1 right by the dug out. Jan was beside himself with excitement so I had to tough it out even though it started to pour.
This is my favorite memory from my 29th birthday. My husband, in the rain, happy as can be. I am so blessed. On Thursday I went to the doctor and got a miracle shot and some antibiotics. I started feeling better within hours. Ready for my girls night celebration at Noche Friday night!
(with my best friend of 16 years, Shayda)
(with the beautiful mama to be, Catherine, who stopped by even though she had to catch an early flight the next morning)
Group Shot! So thankful to have such amazing friends! Despite being sick for a few days this was a great birthday week 🙂
