valentines day

Our Valentine’s Day Weekend

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. It’s way more fun now that I have kids and can channel my inner craftiness and have a real reason to buy red and pink heart decorations starting after Christmas 🙂 Henry had his Valentine’s Day party with our playgroup friends on the 13th. Thanks to Pinterest, I found a super easy Valentine favor to make. I used this free printable and bubbles from the Dollar Store (a 3 pack for a buck, so cheap). The bubble label was printed on regular printer paper and thick enough to cover the existing bubble labels, so I didn’t have to remove each one. Then I tied each bubble with a tag and voila! done. Such an easy and cute favor. And believe me when I say this … all kids love bubbles. You can’t go wrong.

For his favor box, I used a box from Target that had some fun tattoos in it. There was already a cut out in the front and since my first try at making a box turned out like crap, this was my only option. It was a tad on the smaller side though which I need to remember for next year since a lot of his Valentine’s were too large to fit in the opening.

Saturday morning I got up with both kids so Jan could sleep in (which didn’t last that long, he was up within an hour). Henry helped me make coffee and red velvet heart shaped pancakes with cream cheese frosting (but mostly he just stood cautiously in the kitchen corner while the hand blender was going). I also added some pink food coloring to his milk and set out a few goodies for him since it was a holiday. He was so sweet, waiting patiently with all this yumminess in front of him so I could snap a quick picture. This lasted maybe 5 seconds before he got down to business: eating, making a mess and opening his new crayons, cars and paint.

This was the outfit he wore to the party. How funny is this shirt? Also, I love his little smile lately. The gap between his teeth and his scrunched up eyes are just the cutest.

On Saturday night after both kids were in bed, we had our annual fondue dinner, which we have done every year since we’ve been married and we only make this on Valentine’s Day. It really is something fun and special to look forward to.
And because no holiday is complete without holiday pictures:

Until next year! <3

Our Valentine’s Day Weekend

Like I mentioned on Friday, Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a day to be reminded of how much we love our spouses, family and friends (and the red and pink hearts get me every year). I also despise when people say “oh that’s not a real holiday. It was made up by card companies” and blah blah blah. There is a lot behind Valentine’s Day which you can watch here if you’re so inclined 🙂 We started off Valentine’s Day with a sweet treat breakfast for Henry, consisting of a Target cupcake and pink milk and finished off the night with our traditional at home fondue, which we save for special occasions and actually hadn’t done it since last Valentine’s. My husband and I are pretty lucky that Henry is such a great sleeper and does a solid 12 hour stretch at night, from 6pm – 6am, giving us plenty of quality grown up time together to have dinner, talk, relax and have something on the TV other than Elmo.

For dinner Jan and I made our annual fondue. It’s becoming our tradition to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home with fondue and it makes things a hell of a lot easier (no running around, traffic, trying to get reservations or a sitter). We followed up the night with some Dutch Monkey Donuts Saturday morning and then packed up Henry and sent him to Grandma’s so we could have a night out and a morning of sleeping in (which by the way is really hard when you have a kitten attacking your feet and 2 dogs whining to go out). We went to a new restaurant in Buckhead called St. Cecilia. The food was amazing, which was to be expected and I can’t wait to go back and try the other items on their menu. We had the raw Yellowfin Tuna, Hearth Roasted Octopus, Cappelletti, Maine Sea Scallops and NY Strip. I recommend it all (especially the scallops!)

Monday night was our friend Hanna and Sam’s opening of their store Abby & Co. It was so fun to see everyone without having to chase toddlers around and have conversations without interrupted sentences and short answers, while making sure your child isn’t eating dog food or climbing on top of a table. Hanna and Sam did such an amazing job on the look of the store and selected the most adorable items for mommy, baby and even daddy too! If you’re in the Atlanta area, be sure to check them out!

I hope everyone has a great week! xo

Five Things Friday

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is one of my favorite days of the year. I think mostly it’s because all the decorations and food are centered around red, pink and hearts. I have indulged in plenty of red/pink/hearts and unfortunately I have pushed all this on Henry, so I hope he will not grow to hate it (for the sake of girls out there). Tomorrow I’ll share his yummy “breakfast” and the Valentines he I made for his friends.
I am currently loving comfy and simple items (hence the socks, backpack and salve) but that camera strap scarf has been on my wish list for weeks (particularly my Valentine’s Day wish list) … let’s see if I get it 🙂
The snow and ice are finally thawing in Atlanta which should make for a nice weekend, hopefully outdoors since cabin fever struck us hard again these past few days. I hope everyone has a safe and fun Valentine’s Day!

Henry’s Valentine’s Day Style

I always get so excited for Valentine’s Day. Mainly because I love hearts, red/pink and the decorations are always the cutest. Henry has a super cute outfit picked out for his Kissing Booth pictures with my friend Joleen next Saturday. We can’t wait! (I also ordered him a bow tie to dress this up a bit, and because every little boy needs a bow tie).
Before running to Target yesterday I had to snap some pictures of him wearing his new shoes. Matched with the wire heart and red stool, it was too perfect. He actually sat there and let me shoot for a few minutes (gasp!) Usually he is all squirmy and rarely stays still so I had to take advantage and got a little trigger happy.

It is freezing here in Georgia and although I would like to stay in warm PJ’s all weekend and drink Starbucks, Henry gets cabin fever so we may need to go out for a bit. I hope everyone has a great weekend and stays warm!
