Little Boy Style

Within the past few weeks I have started referring to Henry as a toddler, since that is the age group he is falling into, and everyday he does something that reminds me that he’s not a baby anymore (enter flood of tears here). I have also come to terms that he is in big boy clothes. No longer can he fit into the cute onesies from Target that only go to size 9 months. He is a full blown man baby (if such things exist). Like a cross between Bruce Willis and the Gerber baby. One of my favorite things about this cooler weather is all the cute little boy clothes out there. I am not a fan of summer clothes for boys (or me for that matter). Maybe it’s because I have never been able to find cute shorts that I like for me or Henry. I prefer jeans, leggings, hats, cute t’s, puffy vests, high tops … basically attire that is not summer friendly. It seems like unisex leggings have exploded onto the scene. I love this idea; they are comfy, cute, soft and can be worn almost year round. I love them with an oversized tee. One thing I don’t like? All the backlash about baby/toddler boys in leggings. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard “Can’t you get that boy some real pants?” from my friends, family, and strangers. Sometimes I just want to reply “No, I can’t. Do you want to buy him some?” Even my husband used to be a leggings skeptic, however he has grown to love them because Henry looks so stinkin’ cute! Here are some of my favorite fall looks on him from the past few weeks (and yes, most include leggings!) I also can’t wait until it’s even cooler so I can bust out the Mr. Rodgers sweaters I have been hoarding for months.

Mama & Mini Fall Favorites

Friday already? Where did this week go? Work has been crazy busy lately since I have taken on more responsibility. That mixed with a full blown active toddler on my hands and you could say life has been a little hectic to say the least. That being said, I do love a challenge though and I think I thrive when I have more to do. I feel more accomplished when I get things done. When life throws more on my plate, it doesn’t necessarily mean I can’t handle it, but that I have to shift around how I have been doing things and adapt to the changes. I have been very blessed and fortunate in my life and I know this is just a new road that I am on and it will quickly become my “norm”. Okay, back to the good stuff. A few weeks ago I shared some of my mama & mini fall favorites over on my friend Joleen’s blog. I realized I had never shared this so here they are, my mama and mini fall favorites! One of the best things about having a little boy is searching for fun and unique pieces to dress him in. I thought it would be so hard to find cute boy clothes while pregnant but man was I wrong. Leggings, high tops, tee’s and raglans are some of my choice staple pieces. And although I find it way more to shop for Henry than I do for myself, that doesn’t mean I don’t love a new pair of shoes or handbag 🙂
Happy Friday and happy shopping!

First Day of School

Henry recently started pre school and goes 2 days a week. He is in a class with other children ages 12-18 months. It’s been a hard transition on him. He still cries when I drop him off and hasn’t adjusted fully to the nap schedule. All the kids are on the same schedule and nap time is from 12pm-2pm and they sleep on mats. Henry still sleeps in his crib so I was worried he would be running all over the place but his teacher says that even though he doesn’t nap that much, he does lie there and rest.
Black High Tops /Colored Skinny Jeans/Arrow Tee/Backpack – from H&M. I think they may have literally just sold out of this. It was on my wish list and I finally bought it when it went on sale for $9 and then I had a coupon code for another $2 off.
He was so mesmerized by this backpack that he wouldn’t stay still for a single picture.
His first day he didn’t cry, but that’s because I don’t think he realized I was leaving him there. He just thought it was a new place to play. He sat down and enjoyed his breakfast and seemed to be fine. However, every day since then he has cried when I drop him off. It’s the saddest thing to see his little lip quiver. Total heartbreak.
Poor guy was so worn out from his first day that he immediately passed out once he was in the car.

Hopefully this will be just a phase and he will get used to his teacher and look forward to going to school soon!

Weekend Recap & The Big 3-2!

Saturday was my husbands 32nd birthday. I cannot believe it’s
been a whole year since we celebrated his last one down in Florida with his
whole family, it was such a great trip. Friday we had a pre-birthday lunch with
him at The Cheesecake Factory (yum!), ordered from our favorite Chinese
restaurant for dinner and finally watched This is The End once Henry went down.
The group of actors in that movie are our favorites (especially Danny McBride)
and the movie was hysterical.
I like to celebrate birthdays in our house for a few days, if not a week. On Saturday, I woke up early to make some yummy Apple Pie Pancakes. I found a great recipe here and followed it pretty closely. I added a little bit more cinnamon and used two whole apples. I also like to make my pancake mix ahead of time and then leave it in the fridge to “set up” a bit so the batter is easier to work with and a bit thicker when making your pancakes. Here is my adapted version:
Apple Pie Pancakes
DRY INGREDIENTS:
1 cup Flour
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (original calls for freshly grated. I used ground nutmeg)
WET INGREDIENTS:
1 cup whole milk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
ADDITIONAL:
1 cup peeled and grated apple (I used 2 whole apples for this recipe and it was well over a cup. But hey, we like apples). PS: this is messy. I had no idea how juicy apples were. Do this on a cutting board!
Butter or vegetable oil, for the skillet (I used spray PAM)
Maple Syrup
Powdered Sugar (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Mix together all dry ingredients in a medium size bowl.
2. Whisk together the wet ingredients in a small bowl.
3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mix well using your hand mixer, then add in the grated apple. I used my hand mixer to combine all of these, instead of folding in the apple like the original recipe called for.
4. Put batter into fridge for 1-2 hours. (optional) I kept mine in there for 2 hours and it was much easier to work with.
5. Preheat your griddle to medium and brush with butter or oil. Using a 1/4 cup measure, scoop the batter onto the skillet. Cook 1 to 2 minutes until small bubbles form on the surface of the pancakes, and then flip. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook on the other side for about 1 minute, or until golden brown.
6. Transfer the cooked pancakes to a baking sheet and place in a pre-heated oven (200 degrees F.) to keep warm. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve pancakes with warmed maple syrup and a dust with powdered sugar.

{A little sloppy. I have never been a good pancake flipper and I have no idea how they make them so perfectly round at iHop.}

{Henry loved them!}

After a birthday breakfast and opening cards/gifts, we headed up to Bert’s Pumpkin Patch! We went last year too and have decided to make this our “spot” for pumpkins and October traditions. Here is a picture from last year, Henry was only 3 1/2 months old!
And here are our pictures from this year

Sunday we had breakfast at Dutch Monkey Donuts, which is seriously like a gourmet donut shop. They might as well have been cupcakes. Jan’s favorite was the bacon wrapped glaze. We sat outside and ate, the weather was perfect. Afterwards we ran some errands, completed our front porch decorations, and had our best friends (and Henry’s Godparents) over for dinner. Henry’s Godfather’s birthday is 2 days after my husbands so it was a joint birthday dinner. Jan made his signature Shrimp Tortellini, we had drinks, played catch up, and enjoyed each other’s company.

I hope everyone has a greet week! Happy Monday!

15 month favorites and changes

Age: 15 Months & 4 days
Stats: 26 pounds 10 ounces, 32.5″ tall (he has grown over 2 inches and gained 2 pounds since his twelve month check up)
I have to admit that the past 7 weeks have been quite the transitional period for Henry (and myself). He started getting all of his teeth at once which brings on lots of fussiness, he started throwing tantrums, dropped down to 2 naps a day (and sometimes just 1), is more curious than ever, and he has become a daredevil. Year one was a breeze compared to this. He also recently started school two days a week while I am at the office, and that has been very hard on him.  He also NEVER sits still. He wants to explore, run, move, etc. He hates diaper changes, getting his hands and face wiped and being told NO.  I have a feeling we might be getting our “terrible twos” a little early! But I know that everything is just a phase and soon this will pass so I am trying not to stress that much.  Here are some of the things he is currently loving right now.

1. Stacking Cups/Blocks – I think my child might be a bit OCD. He is obsessed with stacking cups, blocks, tupperware, etc. He definitely is not lacking in the fine motor skills department. Our favorite stacking cups are these
2. Shoes – Henry is obsessed with his shoes. He always wants to wear them and they are the first thing he points to when he wakes up in the morning. He will bring them to me and sit down and wait patiently for me to put them on. I think that is the only 2 minutes of the day where he is still. Our favorites are Converse high tops, Adidas and classes slip ons. Other brands I love are Target, Walmart, Polo, Tom’s and Puma.
3. Blueberries – Henry recently took to blueberries like a fiene and has eaten a whole carton in a day. (I guess that’s okay?) The only downfall to this … blueberry elimination. Enough said.

4. His “big boy” chair – We recently picked up this chair at our local Home Goods. It is adorable and he loves to sit (stand) and watch Sesame Street and Dinosaur Train or just hold the remote and lounge (Al Bundy style). That is of course if he is not climbing and standing on the chair.
5. Books – He is finally getting into “reading”. He won’t sit through a whole story but he knows the basics of getting the book, bringing it to me, sitting down and turning the pages. I will also catch him flipping through them on his own too which is just the cutest thing ever. He is growing like a weed right before my very eyes. I don’t know if he has a favorite book yet, but he brings me Henry in Love and Corduroy to read the most.
6. Radio Flyer Wagon – I have to give props to radio flyer for constantly being ahead of the trend. This wagon is pure genius on their part. It’s well made, sturdy, and has everything you need for a walk, trips to the pool, a day at the fair, etc. You can take it anywhere, the canopy shade is removable, there are cup holders for the kids and parents, a built in back pack, pockets for cell phones AND it sits 2 children. Also, when there is only one child riding in it, the other seat folds into a tray table so they can eat or color/do whatever. It is one of the best things out there. One of my favorite things is that he holds onto the sides the whole time while we go on walks (melt my heart!) Here we are last night on a walk. Notice the Halloween PJ’s. October 1st means Halloween PJ’s all month long and trust me, he has a few 🙂
What are some of your favorite items for a 15 month old?
Happy Hump Day! (I actually hate when people say that and look what I just did)

Five Things Friday

Well it’s officially Fall here in Georgia and I could not be happier. I think fall time makes everyone in a better mood. People are over the nastiness of the summer heat and know that the holidays are coming. One of the best things about fall is the wardrobe and shoes. Leggings and chunky sweaters/cardigans with a great boot is my favorite. I am dying over these boots below, especially the check Hunter rain boots! What does everyone have planned for the weekend? We will be going to our first Fall festival of the season tomorrow and can’t wait! I hope everyone has a great weekend filled with Pumpkin Spice Lattes, scarves and boots!

iPhone dump

Recently I backed up my phone to prepare for the new iPhone update and came across hundreds of pictures that I haven’t even shared and completely forgotten about. I feel like all these things happened yesterday but some were weeks ago. Not sure why time has to go by so fast, especially when you’re enjoying it. Also, I still haven’t updated to the new software. I have heard mixed reviews about it … Anyway, get ready for some photo overload. Happy rainy Wednesday from Georgia!
