Swimsuits for Littles

A few months ago some fellow bloggers and I were invited to the Mud Pie showroom in Atlanta for a sneak peak of their incredible home decor, clothing, and accessories. Aside from wanting to move into their space and purchase everything I saw, we really learned a lot about this amazing brand. They are a family run business out of Stone Mountain, GA and are very active in the community; providing support to numerous organizations with financial and product donations and employee volunteer efforts. I am definitely more inclined to support businesses when I know they give back, and apparently I’m not the only one!

I really love how Mud Pie has matching pieces for boys and girls so you can still coordinate if you have opposite genders! These crab swim trunks are SO cute on Henry and just scream “welcome to the South!” and it doesn’t get much cuter than a red polka dot ruffle on this crab one piece. My favorite however is the Flamingo Ruffle, of course! I love how the flamingo neck creates a strap for the suit and the ruffles mimic actual feathers. A few other styles I am obsessed with: Seersucker Ruffle Bow (OMG), Flamingo Coverup, and Fish Lure Swim Trunks. All of the Mud Pie swimsuits sell for under $40 and a lot of the styles are currently on sale. If you are looking for a some unique pieces, be sure to check them out!

Goldfish Swim School

Back in February Henry started taking weekly swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School, a brand new swim facility near our house. I was a little hesitant to enroll him because the summer before he never really caught on when we signed him up for a few lessons. After his first lesson at Goldfish he was hooked. The 30 minute lessons are perfect for his energetic self and he truly looks forward to swim class every week. Although Henry is still working on his confidence, he has acquired all the skills to be a great little swimmer. Goldfish has everything I’m looking for in a swim school for kids. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. The instructors are well trained, attentive, and interact nicely with children. They are patient, positive, and encouraging. I love how energetic they are and they all seem to truly love what they’re doing. There is a lifeguard who is constantly walking the pool during classes and monitoring the kids. I absolutely love the small group lessons which have 4 kids or less. There have been a few times when Henry has been the only child in class and wound up getting a private lesson.

Everything in Goldfish has been specially designed and created with children in mind. From the colorful chairs to the changing stalls, this swim school caters 100% to children. I love the adorable blow dry station which has plenty of hair dryers and the swim suit drying machines are pretty genius. There are multiple changing stalls, bathrooms and cubbies as well as showers for the kids. Every inch of this amazing swim facility is extremely clean and never smells like chemicals. The indoor heated people is kept at 90 degrees all year long and there is a separate air conditioned viewing gallery for parents to watch lessons or work. Goldfish also has an extremely flexible make up policy. We all know how schedules can change and they have always been so accommodating when we’ve had to make up a class or change the date (they also do not charge extra for make up classes!) We’ve had such a positive 10 weeks at Goldfish and I am certain that is the main reason Henry has adapted so easily.

Are you interested in getting your child enrolled at Goldfish? Click here for locations and read more about how amazing their swim programs are. They offer lessons as early as 4 months! Next up on our agenda is to get Evelyn enrolled in the mommy & me class! Happy Swimming!

5 OUTDOOR ITEMS YOUR KIDS NEED FOR SUMMER!

This week is the official start of summer break for us. The kids have definitely gotten the memo because they have been sleeping in every single day. This morning Evelyn slept until 9am and I didn’t even know what to do with myself. You may have seen on my Instagram stories over the past few weeks that we’ve been getting our backyard summer ready. We’ve stocked up on kid pools, slip n slides, water tables, etc. My kids love to be outside so I wanted to share our go-to items for summer!

Popsicles and Lollipops for those sweltering July days. I keep fruit bars, coconut cream popsicles, and several kinds of lollipops on hand all the time. They’re perfect for an afternoon snack and I have been known to bribe Henry with some if he takes a nap 🙂

Bubbles & Bubble Machine – I don’t know what we did before bubble machines were invented. I just do not have the patience to blow thousands of bubbles all day. You can get bubble machines for under $15 on Amazon or at our local Target. I stock up on the huge 64-ounce bubble solution too and then buy some character bubbles when I see them at the store so the kids think they’re getting “Batman Bubbles!” or “Minnie Mouse Bubbles!” Be sure to save those character bottles too so you can add the plain solution to them. It’ll save money on buying the special ones and the kids don’t know the difference.

Chalk & Outdoor Paint – My kids love this washable chalk paint. We’ve used it the last 3 years and you cannot beat the price. This box of 126 is only $19! If you are a member of a wholesale club like Sam’s or Cotsco, be sure to check there for chalk, bubbles, lollipops etc. Buying in bulk will save you a ton of money and Sam’s Club always has the best summer toys!

Plenty of sleeveless shirts and tank tops. Summers in Georgia can be pretty miserable due to the humidity. You’ll want to have enough outdoor clothes that keep the kids cool and are also stylish and durable. I have been a huge fan of Gardner and the Gang since Henry was a baby. These tanks tops are unisex and super soft. Plus, you probably won’t see other kids at the playground wearing these which is why I love them so much. I’ll be sharing more from this amazing line this summer!

Water Balloon Filler – Just like how I’m not going to spend all day blowing bubbles, I’m also not going to ruin my finger tips filling and tying a hundred water balloons that will just break anyway. The water balloon fillers that hit the market a few years ago are a serious game changer. They’re inexpensive and make the perfect size water balloons for little hands. If you buy any toy for outside, make it this one.

Rockets of Awesome – Not Just Another Subscription Box

If you’ve been following this blog for a while then you know I love unique styles of clothing for kids. Stylish and practical clothing is out there, you just have to know where to look. I love coming across brands I haven’t heard of before and one of those brands is Rockets of Awesome. ROA is similar to other subscription boxes in that you only pay for what you keep except everything is new and from their own label. Every four months Rockets of Awesome will hand pick 8-12 items for your child and ship to you. Everything can be tried on in the convenience of your own home, since we all know shopping with kids never goes how we want it to. Shipping and returns are always free as well. There is a style questionnaire when you sign up and even though I was hesitant that I’d be sent items I don’t dress the kids in, they nailed every single piece. I love all the tees they chose for Henry which can be dressed up or down. The shirts for Evelyn have the cutest hems on them and a nice feminine sleeve.

I love the Rockets of Awesome mission statement: “We believe in simplifying the lives of parents and celebrating real life with kids. [Meltdowns included.]” From grocery delivery services to robotic vacuums, you know I am all about simplifying the lives of parents. This subscription box is perfect for busy moms and dads but it’s also fun for your littles to get a box of clothing in the mail that’s just for them. Not only are the clothes unique and stylish, they are also extremely good quality. Very thick, durable and well assembled. Everything that was sent fit my kids perfectly. Henry wears a 5T and even though Evelyn is closer to a 3T, I chose to go with their 2T sizing. It’s as if every piece was custom made for my kids. I will definitely be subscribing for more Rockets of Awesome boxes. I cannot wait to see what they have for Fall and Winter!

I HAVE THIS THING WITH PEPLUM

Have you ever loved a piece of clothing so much that you wanted to buy it in every color? That is how I feel lately about peplum tops for little girls. I want them in every color and every size so Evelyn can basically wear them until she graduates high school. These peplum tanks are perfect for wearing year round because you can pair with a cardigan or even a long sleeve leotard or shirt underneath. They do run a tad small so size up (Evelyn is wearing a 3T).  I’m also loving these peplum styles: one, two, three, four, and five (under $4)! What is the one piece of clothing that you love for little girls?

Why Two Kids Are Enough for Me

When did you know that your family was complete? Was it after one child? Two? After a boy and a girl? Growing up I always wanted 3 kids. Always. It wasn’t even a question and I had even told my now husband my plans when we were still dating. Even when my second was a newborn and I had a two and a half year old running around, I still wanted another. Despite the last month of my second pregnancy being completely awful, it wasn’t enough to deter me from wanting one more baby. It’s funny how we forget pain and discomfort when we’re in a euphoric state with a newborn. There is nothing that compares to meeting your baby for the first time. I absolutely adore babies and would want 20 if I could. Babies that is … not children. My yearning for wanting a third child was not to have another child, but to have another baby. We all know how fast that first year goes and for me, I would want to experience that first year 100 times if I could. Then I quickly remember that babies grow up and jump back into the realization that raising tiny humans to be good people, while keeping them safe, healthy and loved, is the hardest and most important job in the world. I often think I’m not cut out for it.

As my kids have gotten older I have quickly learned that the toddler years are no effing joke. To put it simply: my kids have no chill. They are constantly “on” and are only still when they’re sleeping. They have no fear of strangers or being away from myself and husband. At parks, they are the ones jumping off slides instead of sliding, throwing rocks instead of playing with them, and constantly trying to explore outside of the playground. I never take them both to the park by myself in fear of them getting kidnapped because they are all over the place, usually in opposite directions. When my husband and I take them places together nearly 100% of the time we say to each other at some point “What would we do if we had THREE?” Our kids have very strong personalities and we’ve quickly realized that they are, in fact, the only children we need to have. If Henry had it his way, it would still just be him.

There are people out there who kill it at the parent game and make raising three or more kids look easy. But everyone has their struggles, even when their social media looks perfect. I am no different. I spend a good chunk of my day yelling empty threats that I know I won’t go through with (because of course I’m not going to throw all the toys in the house away). Then I go to bed each night mentally drained from the day, like most mothers out there. It feels like I’m always waiting for 7pm to roll around so I can have peace and quiet and then I look at Henry, who will be 5 next month, and ask myself how these years have flown by. I can hardly give enough of myself to two children, let alone three or more. There have been many times that I said to myself and my husband “Maybe I wasn’t meant to be a mother.” I realize I say this because of the difficult stage of motherhood I’m in, but also because I can’t bear for another child to get older, no matter how hard the days are. Each year that passes is a painful realization that these babies of mine are becoming children who will soon become adults. Studies show that parents are happiest when their kids are between 6 and 12. As much as I cannot wait for these ages to come, I don’t want them to come at all. I know one day I will look back and crave the toddler years. All the tantrums and back talking and wiping asses … there will come a time when I am not needed and that is a painful fact. Time is truly the thief of joy. Every cliche you hear about children is true. How fast time goes, how you blink and they’re grown up. I’m more than okay with the two amazing children I have because I couldn’t possibly bear the thought of not being able to give each of them the mother they deserve. So tell me your thoughts on parenting children. How did you know when your family was complete?

“Through the blur, I wondered if I was alone or if other parents felt the same way I did – that everything involving our children was painful in some way. The emotions, whether they were joy, sorrow, love or pride, were so deep and sharp that in the end they left you raw, exposed and yes, in pain. The human heart was not designed to beat outside the human body and yet, each child represented just that – a parent’s heart bared, beating forever outside its chest.” – Debra Ginsberg

Robotic Vacuums – My New Best Friend

I’m pretty sure the majority of people living on Earth would agree that they dislike cleaning. At any given time there are about 73 things I could be doing and vacuuming my floors is never one of them. I am a big advocate for utilizing products and services that are designed specifically to makes lives easier. The bObi Classic is a robotic compact cleaner who makes life easier. She is a lightweight, compact, round robotic vacuum that can be used on wooden floors or carpet. She automatically docks after cleaning and can sense when her battery is getting low so you never have to worry about her dying mid-clean. bObi also comes with a programmable memory timer so you can choose the date and time to have her clean the floor (another saving grace for busy moms!) She steers clear of drops and glides easily underneath furniture. There is a washable dustbin that can be quickly emptied and rinsed out and a mini-mop which shines floors and wipes away dirt. Have you fallen in love with her yet? I knew you would!

The bObi is a tad louder than our normal vacuum so I don’t recommend having her run if you have company over, are trying to make important calls, or just generally want some quiet. I’ve found that the best time to start her up is if we are running errands for a few hours, or at night before bedtime. The bObi can handle dust, pet hair, food crumbs, and any messes that my two kids can create.  She cleans all types of floors including wood, tile, and carpet which is perfect because our house has all three. I’m not even sure how we managed before the bObi came into our lives. Besides handling one of lives most tedious tasks, the bObi also makes a a great alien space ship for Paw Patrol figures to play on 🙂 Do you have a favorite device that makes life easier on you? Tell me in the comments below!
