welcoming baby evelyn

It’s been a long time since I posted on here. I actually don’t think I posted at all about my pregnancy with baby #2 and truthfully, I can’t believe how fast that pregnancy came and went. And how she is 10 days old already?! I’ve been singing her abc kids songs already, even though she’s only 10 days old. But as we know, kids grow up so fast. Before we know it, she’ll be able to sing the songs back to me. It really has been a whirlwind, from the whole 39 weeks, going into labor early and now having her here with us.
{10 days old. 1.20.15}
Her birthday was originally set for January 13th with a repeat C section, however she decided to surprise us a few days early: Saturday, January 10th. That day we spent some family time (our last weekend as a family of just 3!) and tried to finish crossing off things to do around the house before baby joined us. We ran some errands and had a big yummy meal at Sweet Tomatoes. I had been having cramps for most of the day, but everything I read suggested they were not contractions. Plus my doctor didn’t think she would come early since Henry didn’t and I never labored with him. Later Saturday evening, my husband and I put Henry to bed around 7 and had dinner around 7:30 pm (not ideal for an unplanned C section since you are not supposed to have anything to eat 6 hours prior). At around 8:00pm, I am sitting on the couch when my water breaks. It literally felt like a hose attached to me and didn’t stop for the next hour and a half. Henry was asleep upstairs thankfully so we didn’t have to worry about running around like crazy people in front of him. I called my doctor and my mom and after throwing random crap into our suitcase and grabbing our sleeping toddler, we piled into the car and headed to the hospital. Every time I had a contraction, more water would “break”. Poor Henry was in the backseat half asleep and kept asking what was wrong. Jan kept telling him that we had to take mommy to the doctor to have the baby and Henry then asked me about 100 times if I needed to go get a shot.
When we arrived to the hospital my mom was already there to meet us (and luckily I had packed Henry’s bag earlier that day so he was all set). As I sat in a wheel chair getting checked in, my nerves started to set in. I was worried they wouldn’t be able to perform the C Section in time since I had just eaten and the last thing I wanted was a VBAC. Thankfully that was not the outcome. It seemed like we were the only people having a baby that night because the labor and delivery floor seemed empty and the nurses and doctors were moving fast. We got in a room about 9pm and she was born at 11:38pm. The only person we were waiting on was the anesthesiologist to administer and test out the epidural to make sure it was working. At one point the doctor even came in and asked the nurses what the hold up was. He probably wanted to get back to his Saturday night 🙂
The underlying nerves that I had throughout this whole pregnancy was the C Section. I was worried something would happen during surgery or that it wouldn’t go right but the doctor and his team were great and it felt like I was in the operating room for a shorter time than I was with Henry. Before I knew it I was being rolled into the recovery room to meet my new baby and see my husband.

The recovery in the hospital for this C Section was a lot harder this time around for me. I will spare all the details, but the first 3 days I could hardly sleep or move without being in so much pain. I am allergic to a lot of medicine so it was hard for the doctors to find what could work for me. They finally put me on dilaudid through my IV and then by pill.

We were able to have an early release on Wednesday morning and my mom met us at the hospital with Henry so we could come home as a family of four. I don’t think the dogs were too happy about being with out us since they welcomed us home with a big pile of shit in the kitchen (even though they have the best care taker ever). Unfortunately she has her days and nights mixed up and likes to stay up and party until 2am. So I have been getting about 4 hours of sleep or less at night which totally sucks but I know it’s only temporary and will soon pass. I am spending my days soaking up all her sweet baby-ness and trying my hardest to muster up some energy for Henry too. I still can’t lift him, which is so sad to me because he is constantly asking me to hold him. Hopefully he forgets that I haven’t been able to do as much with him these past few weeks and I can return to my old self soon!

Weekend Wrap Up

Saturday morning we ventured out in the rain to Inman Park to meet some friends for brunch. We ate at Folk Art which was delicious and kid friendly (Thank God). This pregnancy one of my biggest craving has been chicken and waffles and I order it nearly every time I see it offered somewhere. So of course I had to try the fried chicken and waffle with whiskey peach compote and it was incredible. It was so nice to catch up with friends and Henry spent half of the breakfast eating from Arman’s plate. Thankfully he was a good sport about it 🙂

On Sunday a few girls from my moms group went to a holiday cookie swap which was so much fun. There were about 17 ladies there which meant a ton of cookies for me to take home (the hubby and I are still devouring them). We basically got to take home as many cookies as we brought. Most everyone made about 3 dozen, so that meant I left with around 40 cookies. This was my first cookie exchange and I was already telling the girls we should do it at every holiday. I made Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Chip cookies and Henry even helped me. He got so excited helping me mix the ingredients and kept saying “okay! yep!” after everything I would say. I definitely want to try and involve him more since he’s a little older now. I just love his little arm in this picture below 🙂

The other parts of the weekend we just relaxed and enjoyed the fact that we didn’t have anything to do … besides getting ready for the new baby to come in less than 5 weeks but that seems so overwhelming now so I can’t even think about it. We’re just trying to enjoy our last weekends with Henry before we shake things up on him!

2 Year Old Rambling

I haven’t done a monthly update post in a long time, but since Henry will be 2 1/2 next month, it seemed fitting to do one. I still can’t get over the fact that I have a toddler. This is the best time and the hardest. He is so adorable with all his new words, phrases and actions. He can imitate us just by seeing the slightest thing. {even the bad stuff!}
Here are a few of my favorites lately:
Whenever he sees words written, he immediately tells me that they say “Henry”
There are 4 songs he loves on the radio and asks for them back to back whenever we get in the car: Bang Bang, Boom Clap, Shake Shake and Cool Kids
He loves building train tracks and putting them together, more so than making the trains ride on the tracks. (Just like when I was little, my cousin and I would spend hours setting up our barbie houses and areas and then we would never play actual barbies).
Frozen is his favorite film. Sometimes when the days are long and I need a break, we watch it twice. He also loves Thomas, Noddy and Chica from the Sprout network.
His classic one liners lately are: “I naked”, “I cute”, “I swimming”
He loves to list his favorite things that he did recently, starting with “how about”. And he always makes it sound like a question (as in, did I really do that Mom?) It could be the friends in his class, what he ate that day, or an activity we did a week ago. My favorite is when he lists his breakfast (and he hasn’t actually eaten all of these things for breakfast): “how bout sausage? how bout eggs? how bout coffee? how bout fruit loops?” how bout water-a-melon?” (disclaimer … we do not feed him coffee)
He still loves to watch videos and look at pictures of himself. The side of our fridge is covered with Sticky Grams of just him and he will point at the pictures and tell me what he is doing “Henry sad, Henry night night, Henry playing”
This brings me to his next thing: he refers to himself in the 3rd person a lot, and especially when he has to go potty on the toilet. He tells us “Henry potty toilet” as if we were confused?

This must have been learned at school in the last few days, because when I ask him questions lately he answers “No, I didn’t.” He likes to answer that especially when I ask him if he has fed his dinner to the dogs, gone to the bathroom in his diaper (we’re potty training) and if he’s ready for lunch.

This is definitely the cutest stage he is in now (and also the hardest!) but I love all the things he is learning and how he is expressing himself.

UP Halloween Costume

Happy November! Yesterday in Atlanta was super cold and windy, so we hung out inside in our PJs all day relaxing around the fire after a super fun (and long) Halloween. We had friends over on Friday for dinner and sweets before we headed out to go trick or treating. This year was so much different than last year, where Henry and his friends stayed in the wagon and I collected his candy. This year, Henry wanted to run to each house and was obsessed with ringing the doorbell as many times as possible and grabbing as much candy as his little hands could carry. He was even trying to go into people’s homes 🙂  Before Henry was born, I had seen these photos of the UP Halloween costume and I knew that one day he would dress up as Carl. Luckily he owned all parts of his costume and my husband made his “cane” out of PVC pipe, tennis balls and spray paint. It has definitely been the cutest one yet! Our dog Dixie slightly resembles Dug from the movie and they looked so cute together.
Blue Cords /  Moccasins / Cardigan, H&M (sold out, similar here) / Bow TieGlasses
My mom and I decorated the “party room” as Henry calls it and made some treats and punch for the party. They were definitely the most fun to make and very festive. Henry loved showing all of our friends who came over the room and when we were decorating it he would say “wow, perfect! I love it!”
I already can’t wait for next year when we will have TWO kids to dress up 🙂 Also, there are only 7 Sunday’s before Christmas and 9 Sunday’s before our new baby joins our family!

Weekend Wrap Up

The first weekend of October is always one of our favorites. My husband’s birthday is on the 5th and along with that celebrating we also head up to Burt’s Pumpkin Farm to get our pumpkins for the season. This was our third year going as a family and definitely Henry’s favorite. This time he was old enough to pick out his own pumpkins (all 300 of the little ones that wound up in our wheelbarrow), “ride” the tractor and we even went on hay ride. He was such a good boy and had so much fun running free and exploring. It’s crazy to think that next year we will be going with a 3 year old and a 10 month old!

After the farm on Saturday we went to visit my best friend and her husband at the hospital. She had just given birth to their baby girl the day before and I was so anxious to meet her. She is such a sweetie and is just perfect. Our daughters will only be 3 months apart and it will be so fun watching them grow up together. I can’t wait to see her again soon <3

 On Sunday my husband turned 33. I let him sleep him and woke up with Henry at 6:30 (not by choice. Our son is an early bird!) I made him french toast on sourdough bread which was so good and we relaxed around the house for a few hours. We had a sitter come for Henry so we could have an adult day. My mom and her husband treated us to Top Golf (our first time!) It is such a fun place and the weather was crisp and cool, perfect for an outdoor day. The food was also very good (I was expecting bar food) and there were a lot of options to choose from. There were also TVs in our bay and the Falcons game was playing … so perfect.

Tomorrow we are extending the celebration with dinner with some friends at Pampas Steakhouse and then it’s back to Halloween and Fall activities 🙂

Sugarboo Farms

A few weeks ago we loaded up the car and made the 2 hour drive north to visit Sugarboo Farms. Since this place is such a popular destination, it is almost always booked up so we don’t get the chance to visit too often (I hadn’t been since I was 8 months pregnant with Henry!) Being there almost makes you forget that downtown Atlanta is less than 3 hours away. It’s so serene, peaceful and relaxing.
We brought our two dogs, who have been there before, and they love being able to run free on the property and play. (another bonus, SB Farms is very animal friendly!)
This was Henry’s first time seeing farm animals and being in this kind of environment. He was amazed at all of the wilderness and spent nearly the whole time walking, running and exploring. He was so exhausted he passed out less than 5 minutes of being in the car. He loved seeing the goats, chickens and the “horse” which is really a donkey 🙂

Weekend Recap

I realize it’s been well over a month since I updated the blog. I honestly can’t believe it’s been so long and so much has happened and we’ve been so busy. So, let’s get to it!
This past weekend was jam packed with a ton of fun. On Friday, we went to Henry’s friend Matthews birthday party and then my husband and I went to dinner and a movie to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. We went to yummy Italian at One41 and then went to see Lucy (our first time seeing a movie alone in almost a year!)
{Henry and his best friend Roman riding around in a pick up truck}
Saturday morning we were very spontanious and on what should have been a quick Starbucks run ending up being a 20 minute drive to Dutch Monkey Donuts, one of the best donut shops around. Unfortunately since we did plan on getting out of the car, we all looked like major bums and Henry was still in his superman pajamas.

After our sugar coma subsided we decided to take Henry to run around at the park. We got there just in time to find out that the Fall Festival was happening which was a happy surprise, especially since there were backhoes, cement mixers, etc and most of all: a fire truck! Henry is literally obsessed with fire trucks and construction equipment.

My mom and I hosted my best friends baby shower on Sunday (let’s face it, my mom did 99% of the work). The food was a yummy brunch catered by Carol Parks, the cake was from the fabulous Buckhead Bakehouse and the macaroons from Jole Kobe. The food was so good. My mom has used Carol Parks for over 15 years and highly recommends them. I can’t believe baby Gemma will be here in a month! I can’t wait to meet her.

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. Here’s to another week and hopefully some cooler weather!
