A Monster Celebration

Henry turned two on Saturday. TWO. As much as I thought I’d be sad about him getting bigger, it wasn’t as hard as his first birthday. I felt happy. Happy that is he understanding more, happy that he is in such a cute stage, happy that he is learning so much and using more words. This is definitely the hardest stage and the cutest and I wouldn’t change it for anything 🙂 Last Friday we had a small party for him that included all his friends and their moms from my mom group. I wanted to keep it more low key this year and celebrate with family on a different day. It definitely went a lot smoother and was much more stress-free than his big first birthday party. I had some amazing help (our wonderful babysitter and my best friend/Henry’s godmother. Not to mention my husband who worked hard before work to set up the “pool” area). The theme was Monsters University since that has been Henry’s favorite movie for the past 8 months and we turned it into a toddler pool party. I found most of the decorations online (Party City, Oriental Trading) and the blue food baskets were from the dollar spot at Target (3 for $1); they were the perfect size to hold the kids food. We ended up having 15 kids including Henry and a teeny tiny newborn! We borrowed our friend Kelly’s water table and slide and a few other toys. The blow up pools are from Sam’s Club and Target. We also had chalk, bikes, toddler lawnmowers and a bunch of other toys. The kids had a great time and the party lasted about an hour and a half which was the perfect amount of time to visit and play.

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend was jam packed but oh so fun. On Saturday we hosted our friends Joleen + Ben and their families and friends for their son Benjamin’s first birthday. The theme was vintage story book and the amount of detail Joleen put into each and every piece was amazing. From the invitations (in a little Golden Book), to the handmade banners from book pages, the cupcakes in a jar, etc. The color palette was beautiful and everything worked out wonderfully (it wasn’t too cold either). Be sure to head over to her blog where she will have tons more pictures and details about this fabulous birthday. Here are just a few snapshots I captured.

Henry’s outfit: Reversible Beanie  / Milk Drunk T / Harem Pants / Cardigan (Target last year) / Converse (Nordstrom Rack, similar here)
After the cleanup and when everyone left, we ordered some Chinese, made a fire, put some music on and had some family time. Henry’s new obsession is to climb onto and into everything so he spent the majority of the evening climbing in and out of his lego bucket. Sunday was an all day family day. We started the day with a fire and some yummy Paleo Chorizo Hash, then took Henry to Catch Air so he could run around and blow off some steam. After some Publix subs we all had nap time, then finished the day with an evening stroll around our neighborhood. I’m so lucky to have a husband who values family time as much as I do. It is really important to us to set aside time where we can go on adventures with Henry and really soak up this toddler time. Before we know it, he will be a tween and wan’t nothing to do with us (tear). PS: Tonight we busted out Henry’s Christmas jammies! I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but Christmas is our favorite Holiday and we want it to last as long as it can.

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! xo

Smash Cake Pictures!

I have been meaning to share these fantastic photographs for a while now. They are from Henry’s 1 year smash cake session and were shot by my friend Joleen over at Love, Joleen Photography. She is an amazing photographer so if you are in the Atlanta area, check her out! I wrote about my smash cake semi fail here but she was able to make the cake look so much better than in real life. (Thanks Joleen!)  I am actually happy with the way the it turned out and reminds me of a drunken Dr. Suess type of cake. We live near an amazing open field and even though it was hot as hell, Henry didn’t mind and the pictures turned out wonderful. My husband said that Henry looked like a mini chip n dale dancer in his bow tie diaper cover. But hey, he matched and looked adorable. I also love how Joleen captured his baby fat rolls covered in cake. Could that be any cuter? Thanks again Joleen for your phenomenal photographs and amazing attention to details! xo

Henry Turns ONE

Henry’s first birthday was definitely a labor of love. I started planning the party back in January thinking I had all the time in the world but man did those months fly by. Luckily we finished our sun room about 4 days before the party and I had friends come over to help set up a few days in advance. BEST DECISION ever! I strongly recommend doing as much setting up prior to the morning of the party (if possible). Luckily the party was at our house so there were not any issues that prohibited us from doing this. We got tables set up, goody bags and center pieces made, streamers cut, signs hung, etc. That made it very easy to make a list of last minute things to do the morning of (blow up balloons, make and set out food, get drinks ready, clean up, etc). I am so grateful for everyone that helped out with his party. My best friend (and Henry’s God Mother) took amazing photos and made his beautiful chalkboard sign, I borrowed supplies and tables from friends, and had plenty of help the day of. The rain held off and the temperature was in the low 80’s, there was plenty of space for the 16 babies and 43 adults, and we had tons of food left over (cake, not so much, we nearly ate it all). This was not only a birthday party but a celebration of the first year of life. All that us mommy’s daddy’s go through, the milestones of our babies, and the “we made it!” sign of relief. Thanks so all of our family and friends for sharing this beautiful day with us. We would not be here without you all. xoxo

29th Birthday Recap

On April 3 I turned 29. Twenty Nine. Sigh.
(this cake is from Henri’s Bakery in Atlanta. My mom has gotten every cake of mine there since I was one!) She’d even got Promotion Choice’s custom coasters with my favourite images and phrases on.
The birthday celebration actually started Easter Sunday since we had both sides of family in town. My mother, father, and step dad bought me a MacBook Pro which I have been wanting for years! Such an amazing, thoughtful gift. Baby Henry wanted to help Mama blow out her candles, but I really think he just wanted that frosting!
Breaking in the MacBook in bed while the baby sleeps. Ahhh, so nice <3
(side note, this tv/laptop tray is from Ikea! It was only $7.99 and such a great investment)
Tuesday night my mother in law cooked an amazing pre birthday dinner of Shrimp & Scallop St. Jacque with gouda cheese. Scallops are my absolute favorite seafood and I could eat them daily … too bad they are so pricey. The dish was incredible and I will have to get the recipe and share it.
Unfortunately Tuesday night I started feeling sick. My throat was on fire and my body was aching all over. I decided to go to bed early and rest up for Wednesday. That didn’t help. Early Wednesday morning, on my actual birthday of course, I woke up feeling miserable, like I had strep throat. I was wincing every time I swallowed, my body ached so bad I could hardly move, and my head felt as heavy as a bowling ball. I tried to psyche myself out, get ready, and go into work. We had a big day planned … birthday lunch with friends and front row Braves tickets. I was going to try and make it no matter what.
All of my co-workers were so sweet. They decorated my office, bought me coffee, flowers, , presents, and a cake. I am lucky to work with some amazing people <3.
The birthday lunch was cancelled and Jan and I opted for some soup to try and help my throat. After work we headed to the Braves game with my mom and step dad. He has season tickets, row 1 right by the dug out. Jan was beside himself with excitement so I had to tough it out even though it started to pour.
This is my favorite memory from my 29th birthday. My husband, in the rain, happy as can be. I am so blessed. On Thursday I went to the doctor and got a miracle shot and some antibiotics. I started feeling better within hours. Ready for my girls night celebration at Noche Friday night!
(with my best friend of 16 years, Shayda)
(with the beautiful mama to be, Catherine, who stopped by even though she had to catch an early flight the next morning)
Group Shot! So thankful to have such amazing friends! Despite being sick for a few days this was a great birthday week 🙂
